Evelyn P. Flaten, age 89 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.
Evelyn Flaten was born June 7, 1929 in Golden Township, Walsh County, ND, the daughter of the late Alfred and Myrtle (Anderson) Flaten. She grew up and attended school near Park River, graduating from the Walsh County Agricultural School. She then attended Concordia College in Moorhead for a year. She was united in marriage to Marvin Flaten on February 14, 1949 in Crookston, MN. The couple farmed in Latona Township of Walsh County for 7 years. They then moved to Park River and started Flaten Construction. They also owned and operated the Northside Grocery for 7 years. Marvin passed away on November 30, 2000, and Evelyn continued to make her home in Park River until the time of her death. She was a member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and WELCA of Park River. She enjoyed knitting with the ladies from the church as well as for the Pregnancy Help Center of Park River, china painting and oil painting. Evelyn is survived by her children: Larry (Christine) Flaten, Park River, ND, Douglas (Sharon) Flaten, Williston, ND, Don Flaten, Park River, ND and Maren (Sam) Harki, Anchorage, AK, daughter-in-law Caren Flaten, Anchorage, AK; grandchildren: Shiloh (Jeremy) McDonough, Blake Flaten, L.J. Flaten, Maggie Hepokoski, Zack Flaten, Matthew (Haley) Flaten, Andrew Flaten, Adam (LuAnne) Harki and Cameron (Stephanie) Harki; 9 great grandchildren; siblings: Alda Donahue, Los Angeles, CA and Paul (Leota) Flaten, Santa Monica, CA, sister-in-law Judith Engelmann, Grand Forks, ND as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Jeanne, son Randall, grandson Christopher Flaten, 5 brothers and 1 sister. Memorial services will be Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River. Memorial donations are preferred to the Park River Bible Camp.
