![]() Adele Catherine “Dell” Hankey, age 96 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022 at the First Care Health Center of Park River, ND. Adele was born April 21, 1926 in Grafton, ND the daughter of Leonard J. “Butch” and Jessie (Woods) Hankey. She grew up in rural Park River and attended a rural country school in Walsh County. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River in 1943. After high school she was employed by the John Bures Meat Market for 9 years and by the Park River Variety Store for 27 years. Dell was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and she was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She was a charter member of the St. Ansgar’s Hospital Auxiliary, now First Care. In 1983 she published “Dabble Along with Dell’s Favorites”, her own cookbook. She also wrote recipe columns for the Walsh County Record for over 40 years, Dakota Country Magazine, the Park River Press and the Crystal Clear paper. Dell enjoyed the outdoors, especially at her cabin in Sioux Narrows, Ontario Canada. She was an avid collector of hornet nests. She is survived by her sister, Lucyle “Pud” Thompson and sister-in-law, Joan Hankey of Park River, ND. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Leonard R. “Bart”, Marvin, John and Paul and very special companion of 57 years, Ralph Boone , Jr. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Park River, ND.
