Ernest E. Martin, age 91 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton.
Ernest Martin was born May 30, 1927 in Fort William, Ontario, Canada, the son of the late Dudley and Pearl (Smith) Martin. He grew up and attended school near Drayton until the family moved to Grafton in the 1930’s. He served in the US Army from 1945-1946 in the Pacific Arena. Following his discharge, he returned to Grafton where he began working as a carpenter for Adamsen Construction. He was later a self-employed carpenter, building garages and doing concrete work. Following his retirement at age 65, he worked cutting down trees.
He enjoyed metal detecting and selling metal, deer and fox hunting and working with leather. He was a member of the VFW Post #9367.
Ernest is survived by his sister Nora Rose, Grafton, ND and brother-in-law Lawrence Brosius Sr. Saloe, MN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Cecil (Lillian) Martin, Roy (Isabel) Martin, sisters: Hazel (Frank) Kilcollins, Elaine Brosius, and brother-in-law Frank Rose.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at the Grafton City Cemetery.
