Karen Joyce Lemier was born February 19, 1941 at Grafton, ND to Harvey and Beatrice (Hughes) Douville. She grew up in Neche, ND and graduated from Neche High School in 1959. In 1959, she married Alton Horsley and together they had three children: Tonna, Terri, and Tom. She then married Lionel Lemier in 1974, and together they had four children: Lionel “Tigger”, David, Kelly, and Kara. She was a loving and nurturing mother. Joyce loved to dance, sing, smile, laugh, and be a part of large family gatherings. She was a very intelligent and colorful person and was deeply loved. Things she enjoyed were gardening, cooking, canning vegetables, and making jams and jellies. Joyce loved to work on puzzles and was the first one to solve Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She loved music and especially Elvis Presley. She also enjoyed birds and flowers. She is survived by her children: Tonna Horsley, Fargo, ND, Terri (Jon) Boe, Mapleton, ND, Tom (Lorrie) Horsley, Neche, ND, David (Neisha) Lemier, Hulbert, OK, Kelly Lemier, Parshall, ND, Kara Lemier, Pensacola, FL; grandchildren: Megan (Mike) and Tasha (Kasey); Rebecca, Dustin (Ali), and Maxwell (Rheannon); Kelsey (Michael), Kieran (Evan), and Kylah; London; Alysa; ten great-grandchildren; siblings: Gary (Doreen) Douville, Patrick (Eleanor) Douville, Harvey (Elsa) Douville. Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Lionel “Tigger” Lemier; sister, Beatrice “Bubbles” Trenbeath. Joyce Lemier, 75, of Neche, ND passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation for one hour before the time of services on Monday.
Delores M. DeSautel, age 95 of Grafton, North Dakota passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Valley ElderCare Center of Grand Forks.
Delores M. Peterka was born September 27, 1921 in Grafton, North Dakota the daughter of the late W.S. and Josephine (Burianek) Peterka. She grew up and attended school in Park River, ND. Delores was united in marriage to Robert W. DeSautel on November 27, 1945 in Park River. The couple lived and farmed northeast of Grafton. He passed away on Dec. 19, 1982. Delores remained on the farm until 2005 when she moved into Grafton. In 2008 she moved to Grand Forks.
Delores was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Eagle’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl (Don) Burns, Grafton, ND; Joanie Anderson, Grand Forks, ND; Bonnie DeSautel, Grand Forks, ND; Robert DeSautel, Grafton, ND; four grandchildren: Robert L. (Peggy) Anderson, Nicollette (Josh) Jaster, Trisha B. (Branden) Nelson and Shane DeSautel, six great grandchildren: Jack and Ben Anderson, Jace Walters, Noah Nelson, Boden Jaster and Camila Nelson, her sister, Tracy (Phil) Marxen, Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Vernie Anderson, brothers: Pete and Ben and sisters: Beatrice Karnik and Marietta Campbell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10: 30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
Gladys L. Baier, age 103 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Gladys L. Dalzell was born September 28, 1913 in Leroy, ND the daughter of the late Alex and Elma (Foxen) Dalzell. She attended rural school near Leroy and graduated from Walhalla High School. Gladys was united in marriage to Daniel Baier on June 30 1935. The couple made their home near Neche, ND where he worked for area farmers. In 1958 the couple moved to Grafton. Gladys worked at the Day Drive-Inn for a time and later worked at the Grafton Developmental Center as a cook and in the laundry. Daniel passed away on June 7, 1989. Gladys moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in 2008.
She was a member of Grafton Lutheran church and WELCA. She sang in the Norwegian Choir in Grafton and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her daughter: Marlene (Raymond) Lundberg, Republic, MI; daughter-in-law, Karen Baier, Hoople, ND; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, sisters: Janice (Wendell) Martinson, Hoople, ND and Elaine (Grant) Braaten, Walhalla, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Dean , daughter Karen, one grandson, her step-mother, Vida Dalzell Patterson and siblings: Alvin, Laverne, Lawrence, Dorraine, Esther, Howard, Lois and Richard.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Bruce Cemetery, rural Cavalier, ND.
Judy D. Carlson, age 58 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at her home in East Grand Forks.
