It's hard to approve something you don't have documentation of.
That's what the Walsh County School Annexation and Reorganization
Committee decided at a special meeting Tuesday evening.
The meeting was to address concerns about the reorganization of
the Adams and Park River School Districts into the Park River Area School.
Park River School Superintendent Kirk Ham says he was told by Adams
school district residents the Adams School Board is approving spending of
money on items like I-pads for students and archery equipment. The Park
River Area School Board's concern is that that equipment and other assets of
the Adams School District become part of the newly organized Park River Area School District
on July first. Ham also said the Adams School Board entered into a joint powers
agreement with the City of Adams. Ham asked the county reorganization committee
to approve a motion that the Adams School Board's JPA with the City be for no
more than 100-thousand-dollars and stop spending beyond that amount.
Committee member Roger Schuster said the committee doesn't have
a copy of the joint powers agreement and he asked how the committee could
approve something they don't have a copy of in front of them?
Schuster moved to table the request and that motion was seconded and
Committee members also want to see copies of the budgets of the
Park River and Adams school districts for 2012-2013 and a copy of the joint
powers agreement, and have the Adams and Park River School Boards meet
with a mediator and present a plan for resolution of this.
The committee will meet again when it has that information and decide
what action to take. No date was set.
