Walsh County commissioners have declared an emergency in order to
prepare for a potential flood.
Emergency Manager Brent Nelson told commissioners it could be next
week at the earliest before some flooding starts in earnest in this region. It's still
cold and some rain mixed with snow might occur sometime this weekend. There's
a 50-percent chance of a major flood on the Red River at Oslo and on the Park
River at Grafton. There's a 50-percent chance of moderate flooding on the Forest
River at Minto but that would still require substantial work. There could be a rapid
thaw or significant rain to worsen flooding.
Walsh County commissioners have also approved a resolution for Knife
River Materials to do just over one-and-one-quarter-million-dollars in paving projects.
The major ones are on County Road 16 and County Road Nine west of Fairdale and
Eleven and Eleven-A. Those projects will be done this summer.
Walsh County commissioners also approved a two year extension of an
engineering contract with KLJ.
Also, Walsh County Water Resource Board member Dan Dub of Pisek
intends to retire due to health issues. That was discussed at the commission
meeting. Dub will submit his retirement to the water board. The board will then issue
a notice of the open seat and anyone interested could contact the water board to fill
the remainder of Dub's term.
