It takes more to be a felonious thief in North Dakota.
A new measure that goes into effect on Thursday makes it a felony if a thief steals $1,000 worth of property. The limit used to be $500.
Until Thurday, someone writing a $500 bad check could be prosecuted for a felony. Now the minimum is $1,000.
The measures are among more than 320 new laws that take effect Aug. 1.
