Walsh County Water Resource Board Chairman Larry Tanke says he's
working on another water retention project on the north branch of the Park River.
The Walsh County Water Resource Board met with officials to discuss
developing a joint authority between Cavalier, Pembina, and Walsh Counties to
develop it. The idea is to find some spots in Cavalier and Pembina County to
hold back temporarily water that flows into the north branch of the Park River.
That'd help towns downstream like Crystal, which is on Cart Creek, and Grafton,
which is on the Park River. The north branch caused major flooding due to the
heavy rain that flooded Cart Creek and Crystal.
Tanke says another meeting will be set up. Money will be needed to
survey and design a potential water retention project.
He says the recent flooding has increased the importance and the
momentum for a project like this. But Tanke did not mention a specific
