Prosecutors have dropped an aggravated assault charge against a standout North Dakota State linebacker who fought with another man outside a Fargo bar last weekend.
Cass County State's Attorney Birch Burdick said Thursday that further investigation of video surveillance tape and interviews with witnesses couldn't prove that Travis Beck of Munich, North Dakota was the aggressor in the fight.
Beck was accused of assaulting Matthew Aanenson early Sunday morning after an argument that started in the Sports Bar in downtown Fargo. Aanenson was knocked unconscious.
Beck's lawyer, Bruce Quick, has said that his client was trying to defend himself.
The 21-year-old Beck is a starter for the two-time NCAA Division One Football Championship Subdivision champions. He has been suspended from the team indefinitely.
Beck still faces a charge of resisting an officer.
