The east-end floodwater diversion outlet on Devils Lake has been shut down for repairs.
State Water Commission Engineer Bruce Engelhardt says a pipeline leak earlier this month led to some ground erosion and pipe settling. He doesn't have a cost estimate but says most of the repairs are the responsibility of a contractor.
Engelhardt says he hopes the problem will be fixed in a matter of days.
The lake's west-end outlet is still pumping excess Devils Lake water into the Sheyenne River. But with the east-end outlet shut down, the amount of water being moved off the lake is less than half what it was.
The east-end outlet came online in early summer.
