Osowski is one of 20 middle school students in North Dakota to win an
award for writing an essay about "Why I Wear My Seatbelt."
Osowski says in her essay and in an interview with KXPO that one reason
is her father was in an accident when he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. Osowski says
when she was in first grade her father got into a traffic accident and he wasn't
buckled up. She says that was "very, very hard" for her. Osowski says she
always told her dad to buckle up because she was concerned for his safety.
The one time he forgot, he got into a traffic accident and was injured. Osowski
says that had a huge effect on her. She says now her father never forgets to

Osowski says she'd tell her fellow students who don't wear seatbelts
to buckle up, every trip, every time. She says she's had friends who've not
worn their seatbelts and they've been injured in an accident. Osowski says
accidents can happen any day at any time.
Osowski is an eighth grader at Grafton Central Middle School.
