To put Minto, North Dakota on the map, a group of residents is going to
cook a ton of chili this summer.
The organizational meeting was held Wednesday evening.
The organizer is Harvey Avenue Saloon owner Chris Misialek(mih-SHAW-leck).
Misialek tells KXPO Radio the event will be June 15th and it's an attempt to set a
world record for the biggest pot of chili cooked. He says the current record is about
eight years old and this is a good event to do. Misialek wanted to do this as a "bucket
list" thing for him. His friends said this coming summer was as good a time as any.
Misialek says this event is for community support and have fun. Misialek
hopes to have over 100 workers. He calls it a community effort not just for Minto but
for a number of communities throughout the region. Misialek says the whole idea is
to have a fun, family event that day that everyone can enjoy.
Misialek says they plan on having enough chili to feed five-thousand-people.
The event's scheduled June 15th, rain or shine.
Anyone attending that day can make a free-will donation. Proceeds will benefit
the Walsh County Museum, the Minto Community Center, and the Sunshine House in
There are specifics Misialek won't discuss, concerning the amount of items needed
to cook that much chili. He says they want to do this to set a record and to "put Minto on the
